Community Update - November 11

Posted On Wednesday November 13, 2024

Good morning, Bellwood Community, the home of the Bobcats where we Belong, Believe and Succeed!

We would like to invite you to our school’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday November 11, 2024, starting at 10:45 a.m. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.

A lot of exciting things have been happening at school!  We had Film Camp in a box who worked with our Grade 6-8 students.  The students were so engaged and enjoyed this experience.  If you have children in these grades, please ask them about this experience.  Thank you to Mrs.  Misner for bringing this experience to Bellwood and for facilitating.

We had our school assembly this week and were able to display all the kindness and generosity of our school community who contributed to our Project Love Box as a part of the Super Sophia Project.  We know that these contributions will go a long way in bringing smiles to the faces of children who are in hospital.  Thank you to Mrs. Aquino for bringing this initiative to Bellwood.

Our big prize for Walktober was drawn at our school assembly this week, and the winner of a brand-new scooter went to Jeremiah Beckford!  Congratulations Jeremiah!  Thank you to our school community for taking the opportunity to walk to school!  We hope this continues throughout the year as the more students walk to school the less traffic in our Kiss and Ride!!  Thank you to Mr. Smart for his hard work leading our Walk to School Initiative!

Our Bellwood Bracelet Club, Averie Szymanski, Oakleigh Mayer, Brooklyn Tilley, and Fatima Patel raised $155.60 for the DDSB Ignite Foundation.  These students presented a cheque for this amount to the Foundation's Executive Director.  We are so proud of the girls and that they were able to give back locally to help many families in the Durham region

School Spirit Wear is here! Attached is the student spirit wear order form, including the new Bellwood Bobcat mascot stuffie. To receive the items for the holidays, our deadline for placing our order is November 29th.

We will have samples of some of the items (including the stuffie), at our Parent/Teacher Interviews as we have done in the past. Order forms will also be available.

Please fill out an order form if you are interested and bring your order form to the office with cash or a cheque for us to order for you.

Intramurals are back!

Intramurals are a one-day event that will take place during lunchtime recess and are available for all students in Grade 1 thru 8.

Intramurals are a great way to increase student engagement by providing students with opportunities to interact socially with their peers, which foster a sense of belonging, positive mental health, and greater engagement in both academic and non-academic activities. Participation in intramurals helps students further develop their social skills, co-operation, teamwork, physical literacy, and overall health.

If your child is interested in participating, they can get a permission form from their teacher or Mr. Marshall.

The Schedule for Intramurals is as follows:

  • Mondays grades 1 and 2
  • Tuesdays grade 3 and 4
  • Wednesdays grades 7 and 8
  • Thursdays grades 5 and 6

Kiss and Ride – We continue to ask families to make safety a number 1 priority!

  • Between 8:55 – 9:15am please DO NOT park in front of the kindergarten enclosure. We need to keep the flow of traffic moving.
  • Please DO NOT let your children out of the car in the center lane to pass.  Please drive through the Kiss and Ride to let children out of the car.  This is a safety concern for us here at Bellwood.
  • When you are using the Kiss and Ride, please make sure you drive right up, pick up your children quickly and safely and follow the directions to keep moving by the staff supporting the smooth running of our Kiss and Ride.
  • Please do not park in the Kiss and Ride as this causes back up and is not safe for our students.
  • Please use the sidewalks to walk your children around and do not cut between the cars as this is a safety hazard.  This is a safety concern for us here at Bellwood.

Safety is our number one priority, and we work hard to make sure that our Kiss and Ride runs safely and smoothly.  We need your help!
